I’ve said for a long time that everyone in America knows a gay person. That’s why the issue of civil marriage for gay couples is very personal for everybody. You see, it doesn’t matter who you are, everyone wants their friends and family to be happy.
That was the case this past weekend in Maine, where former President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush served as the official witnesses at the wedding of their friends Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalson, owners of a Kennebunk general store. The Washington Post has the story here.
